Blog: Playing to Win |
|

Are You Playing Full Out?
It's an important question. Your response determines whether you're creating the life of your dreams or settling for mediocrity.
From my interviews with financially successful women, I learned there are two games to play:
* The Underearning Game * The High Earning Game
The Underearning Game is called Not To Lose. The goal is to stay safe, look good, and be comfortable. The way to play is by avoiding uneasiness or fear.
The High Earning game is called To Win.

| Dear Linda,
In honor of Valentines Day, I'd like to offer you a somewhat different perspective on love and money. (Hint: it's not about the money...it never is!) |
|

My Valentine's Wish for You
Roses are red, Violets are blue. I love money. Do you?
Ok, so it's not Shakespeare, but I can almost hear your collective gasp as you read it! "Barbara, you can't be serious. Love money??? That's the root of all evil....besides, it sounds so tacky!"
I know, I know. I hear that all the time. Money is bad. People who have it are greedy. And it's very bad to say you want it. Yet these very beliefs are what put many of you in a terrible bind. While you're striving to increase your net worth, your belief that money is bad keeps you imprisoned in lack.
The truth is money, itself, is not bad. Nor is it good. It's just a bunch of paper and metal. Money can't shoot a gun or bandage a wound. Money can't do squat. Only people can.
I have come to believe that it's not the love of money that's the problem. It's the lack of self-love that leads to trouble. Evil stems from fear, insecurity, and self hatred. Prosperity is a by-product of self love, self worth, self respect...loving yourself enough to give yourself what you desire, knowing money is an integral part of that equation.
When I interviewed successful women, I was surprised by how few were motivated by big money. But at the same time--this is the key--they darn well wanted to be well compensated because they felt they were worth it. Their financial success stemmed from their love of self...and the value they placed on what they brought to the table.
Furthermore, the higher earners who were wealthy (not all of them were!) had a very healthy respect for their money...which they demonstrated by taking good care of it. But their respect for money, I discovered, came from a surprising source--a deep-seated self love. Taking care of their money was one of the ways they took good care of themselves.
As one woman put it: "I always wanted to make sure I had enough assets so I don't worry and live the life I want." Plus, she added, "Working in a corporation, I saw that having financial security allowed me to say what I thought and make the right decisions, whether or not management agreed."
That's what self love sounds like. Here's what it looks like:
- You make sure you have enough money to meet your needs so you don't have to live in fear, shame, or lack of any kind.
- You earn money by doing what you love.
- You take really good care of your money so it works hard and takes really good care of you.
- You make sure you have time for yourself, time with those you love, and time to eat well, exercise regularly, and nourish yourself spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
Happy Valentines Day. Here's to self love! |

New Tele-seminar Series is Starting
We just completed our first 5 session tele-seminar based on my book Prince Charming Isn't Coming. It was an amazing success for many of the participants. Here a few comments from attendees.
I am learning and discovering SO much valuable information. I have never had so much directed energy or a sense of purpose and drive and feel like I am on fire.
I have never felt so alive, so directed, so energized, so grateful, so free. I do not feel trapped inside a body with emotions that I don't understand.
I am sincerely grateful for the work that you are doing. The education and support that you are providing and the courage to insist that the emotional work is essential is invaluable.
You are empowering men and women to live, to face the fears, to lift the fog. Thank you for helping me on this journey--it has only just begun.
And another:
It is a wonderful idea that you are leading the tele-seminars. I am so excited to be a part of the group. You are such an inspiration - so honest and so motivating. Thank you for being a powerful influence to help me move forward to being a wealthy woman. 2008 is my year!
My goal is to put myself first. When I face new challenges, I will feel the fear and not let it stop me from taking action. I want a new lifestyle and to launch my business in 2008. The next scheduled tele-seminar, Overcoming Underearning®, starts Wed. 2/13/2008. If you would like more information or to register now, visit our web site. If you can't make the first session, they are available to listen to for a full week afterwards. |
